This Oscar winning film is troubling on a number of levels. Released as ‘Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance),’ the film is a dark comedy with an abundance of drama. It features failed actor Riggan Thompson (Michael Keaton) as he prepares for the opening night of a Raymond Carver short story adapted for theatre. Riggan is the star and director of this Broadway production, which he hopes will revive his defunct career. His damaged daughter Sam (Emma Stone), fresh from rehab, is employed as his reluctant assistant. Jake, the producer (Zach Galifianakis), is also Riggan’s lawyer and closest friend, and attempts to hold everything together as they approach the opening night and things start to unravel.
