The fifth chapter in the Bourne franchise, as yet unnamed, has a revised release date of 29th July 2016. In case you missed it, here are the details we already know about the film, from when the news first broke about a year ago – Matt Damon will return as Jason Bourne again with Paul Greengrass back in the director’s chair. With those two heavyweights in place you won’t be surprised to hear that Julia Stiles will also return as Nicky – dreary CIA Tech or love interest? No clues on that one yet.
Other notables include Tommy Lee Jones and ‘Ex Machina’ star Alicia Vikander. Earlier last month it looked like Viggo Mortensen was top of the pile to play the villain, but it’s now confirmed that French actor Vincent Cassel has signed up as an assassin tracking Bourne. This will be a rare Hollywood appearance for Cassel (the last one was ‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ in 2007). With Damon, Greengrass and Christopher Rouse all co-writers on this film, there’s a good chance that ‘Bourne 5’ will shift up a notch or two. Following poor reviews of the previous Jeremy Renner lead ‘Bourne Legacy’ (2012), expect intrigue, double-crossing double agents, impressive pyrotechnics and all the ingredients that could make it THE Summer Blockbuster of 2016.
