Smurfs: The Lost Village Trailer

Hold on to your Smurf hats! The gang is back in for another outing on the big screen!

Before I get into looking at this trailer I have to lay out my bias – I love Smurfs. Always have. I used to watch the animated series religiously & I had a huge collection of Smurf figures as well as their mushroom houses. As a result of this I was excited when ‘The Smurfs’ (2011) movie was announced & while I enjoyed it for what it was, I was a bit disappointed with the route they took – I didn’t want to see the Smurfs in our world, I wanted to see them in theirs. Now, thanks to Sony’s decision to reboot, it appears I finally get my wish.

‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’ is a fully animated feature set in the Smurfs world and it looks absolutely gorgeous. I got all nostalgic seeing those little blue guys, their village & even Gargamel & Azrael as I remember them, albeit updated with computer generated animation. The story seems fairly straightforward – a group of Smurfs (from what I can gather Smurfette, Hefty, Clumsy & Brainy) set off to discover the titular lost village after Smurfette catches a glimpse of a creature in the forest. I fully expect mishaps, side adventures & interference from Gargamel along the way. My only quibble is the humour – to me it feels a bit forced here, but hopefully that won’t be the case in the final cut of the movie.

For nostalgia alone, I will definitely be watching this one.

‘Smurfs: The Lost Village’ drops into UK cinemas on 31st March 2017
