David Ayer Will Direct Gotham City Sirens Film

Hollywood Reporter just announced that David Ayer is returning to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) to direct a ‘Gotham City Sirens’ film.  Also returning is Margot Robbie, whose role as Harley Quinn in ‘Suicide Squad’ was one of the stand-out performances in the film, and as well as returning as Harley for the film, she has signed on as en executive producer.

‘Gotham City Sirens’ is a comic book series that focuses on popular female villains that reside in Gotham City, namely Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. It will be very exciting to see who Warner Brother’s decide to cast in these highly popular roles, if they do indeed decide to include Ivy and Selina, which let’s be honest is a must! But we shouldn’t expect any news on this casting for some time, as the film is in the very very early stages.

David Ayer’s return seems to have divided opinions on Twitter, much like ‘Suicide Squad’ divided opinions of fans and critics alike. Some people have expressed the fact they’d have preferred a female director to direct the female-led film, whilst others have a lack of faith in Ayer after the mixed reception ‘Suicide Squad’ received. Some people seem to forget Ayer’s CV doesn’t start or stop with that film and he shouldn’t be judged based off of one film.

Also confirmed in the same report is that a solo ‘Deadshot’ movie is also on the cards. Who in the SKWAD would you like to see get their own solo outing?

  1. I don’t know. Not sure about David Ayer anymore. After multiple viewings of Suicide Squad I really think the film wasn’t ruined specifically by the editing. I think it really was the film they were making. I’m sure the reshoots were bad and WB got in the way a little but I don’t think Ayer was innocent in this either. Sabotage makes me really think he’s not the gritty genius End of Watch made him seem like. I love the idea for the film though. Hopefully he can do this one well. Not really much hope for DC films though.

    • He certainly has A LOT of making up to do. Studio interference could be to blame for the most part, but Ayer still wrote the script, and that was clearly a mess. The Sirens project itself is very exciting though
