A couple of months ago Guillermo del Toro squashed rumours of a ‘Hellboy 3’, despite his best efforts. Fans were eager for Ron Perlman to don the horns to complete the trilogy, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
Now, Mike Mignola, creator and artist of Hellboy comics, has confirmed overnight that there are plans for a film reboot. He even goes on to share that Neil Marshall (Dog Solders, The Descent) is set to direct and it will be David Harbour (Stranger Things, Sleepless) who will don the the sawn off horns of Hellboy.
As a huge fan of del Toro and Perlman’s ‘Hellboy’ films, I am gutted that instead of completing the trilogy the whole thing is being rebooted. However, I don’t think they could have chosen a better actor for this reboot. Harbour is a brilliant actor and I think he’s a perfect choice for Hellboy. Mignola signed off his status saying that there was “more news to come soon” which means we can probably expect an official announcement rather soon.
Over on Twitter, David Harbour is following the new trend of tweeting out a comic book panel of their character to further confirm Mignola’s status as legit.
Of course, this news was met with a very mixed reception from Hellboy fans.
What are your thoughts on this? Does Hellboy actually need a reboot? Or would completing del Toro’s trilogy have been a better move?
