‘Blade Runner 2049’ Short Film ‘Nexus: 2036’ Released

Collider have exclusively shared a new ‘Blade Runner 2049’ prequel short film that fills some of the 30 year gap between ‘Blade Runner’, which was set in 2019, and ‘Blade Runner 2049’.

‘Nexus: 2036’ centres around Jared Leto’s character, Niander Wallace, who has created a new line of replicants, which he calls the ‘Nexus 9’. Wallace is seeking to repeal the prohibition of replicants, but from this short we can probably take a swing and say that he’ll make sure he gets his way. In the video description, Collider shares that at SDCC this year Warner Bros. revealed that in the year 2023 “government authorities legislated an indefinite “prohibition” on replicant production, as a year prior a massive EMP detonated on the West Coast and is pinned on Replicants. So in this Wallace piece, we’ll see the beginnings of the new Replicants that are created after the prohibition is lifted.”

This short was directed by Luke Scott and is the first of three shorts. We’ll share the other shorts when they hit the web!
