The second trailer for the first of the Star Wars spin off films has arrived and I think we can all agree that it is pretty amazing. So amazing in fact that I’m not sure where to begin with it! There’s the beautiful stripped down version of the Imperial March, some absolutely stunning imagery ( the eclipse & the light moving over the Star Destroyer are personal favourites), and that spine tingling final shot of Vader that everyone was waiting for. We are quickly reacquainted with Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and learn a bit more about Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). We also get to see some of the other characters in action (how amazing does Donnie Yen’s character look?) The trailer only touches briefly on the story, but I personally don’t want or need any more than that. In fact I’d go so far as to praise the trailer makers for it – they’re spoiling us, without spoiling us! Roll on December!

The new trailer for sci-fi thriller ‘Arrival’ has hit the internet, and got everyone very excited. Directed by ‘Sicario’ and ‘Prisoners’ helmer Denis Villeneuve (who is in the process of working on the second Blade Runner film, and fast becoming one of the hottest properties in Hollywood) the trailer is decidedly low key and focused largely on the emotional impact of the alien invasion it portrays.
Based on a short story entitled ‘Story Of Your Life’ by Ted Chiang, ‘Arrival’ follows a linguist, played by Amy Adams, who is enlisted to help contact the aliens who have landed on Earth. Despite her prowess in her own field, she is in no way prepared for the job being asked of her. Joined by Jeremy Renner as mathematician Ian Donnelly and Forest Whitaker as Colonel Weber, the ominous trailer shows us an alien monolith, but keeps the aliens themselves a mystery, whetting appetites a plenty in the process.

I about to commit the cardinal sin. I’m not a fan of Christopher Nolan. There, I said it. ‘Dunkirk’, however, looks absolutely phenomenal. Somebody on Twitter expressed their opinion of the trailer by saying, “it looks like Christopher Nolan, through and through.” I disagree. It will star Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, but that’s where the similarities end. This looks like something completely different in comparison to what he usually does; and that’s what really excites me. This is Nolan, so we know it won’t be a straight up war film a la ‘Saving Private Ryan’. The trailer, more of a teaser, doesn’t show much so I looked up the film to get a couple extra details. Here’s where things get weird though, Harry Styles (of One Direction fame) will also appear in the film. I can’t help but scratch my head and wonder why, other than this could be a marketing masterstroke to boost opening weekend figures as the Directioners take cinemas worldwide by storm.
Dunkirk will hit UK cinemas in Summer 2017.
