Chris Miller And Phil Lord Step Down As ‘Han Solo’ Directors Mid-Production

LucasFilm have released a statement overnight confirming that both Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have stepped down as directors on the second ‘Star Wars’ spin-off, the currently untitled ‘Han Solo’ film.

Official Statement:

“The untitled Han Solo film will move forward with a directorial change.

“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this clichĂ© is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,” stated Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The untitled Han Solo film remains scheduled for a May 2018 release.”

Fans on Twitter are already naming directors they’d love to take over the project, but who would be your choice?

Han Solo Project Announced

Disney have announced the latest ‘Star Wars’ spin-off, which will be directed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (‘The Lego Movie’), will focus on iconic smuggler Han Solo and his life before encountering The Force. Scheduled for release on 25 May 2018, fans will have to wait a bit longer to find out who plays Solo. But odds on favourite with the bookies right now is Aaron Paul of ‘Breaking Bad’ fame.

Also up for consideration: Aaron Taylor-Johnson (‘Kick-Ass’), Josh Hutchinson (‘Hunger Games’) and Chris Pratt, but maybe that’s just because he looks a lot like a young Harrison Ford? Then there’s Armie Hammer (‘Lone Ranger’), Chris Hemsworth, Jack O’Connell, Zac Efron and Nicholas Hoult.

With all that talent and all that choice there are no confirmations yet, but this week Aaron Paul dropped a heavy hint on Twitter and Instagram by saying “My dreams are coming true #StarWars”. Smoke and mirrors or the real deal?
